Today’s post is mostly inspired by the latest addition to my lipstick wardrobe in the form of the new Chanel Matte Lip Crayon in Hazelnut and while I might have originally been drawn to it because well, I love hazelnuts, it quickly became the cool nude I always looked for and could never find.
To keep in with the matte theme, I started off with Fenty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer which helped create a smooth base for my foundation to go on top. I’m using Uoma Say What?! White Pearl Foundation in T1C which provides a soft matte finish and medium coverage with one layer (it’s my second time using it but a review is coming!). I applied Fenty Pro Filt’r Concealer in 130 under my eyes and set with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light because to be fair, I don’t find it to be that glowy on my skin and it’s a finely milled setting powder that just takes away the sticky feeling from your liquid products. I proceeded to contour with my beloved YSL Rosy Couture Contouring Duo in the hollows of my cheeks, around the perimeters of my face and down the bridge of the nose. I then used Nars Contouring Blush in Paloma as blush. It is actually fairly similar to the YSL duo but slightly warmer and unlike Olympia, I find this can look patchy on me as contour but works as a neutral blush.
The eyes are actually extremely simple but keeping in line with the same mauvy chocolate brown that I just love so much. I started with Fenty Pro Filt’r Eye Primer and sweeped the darker shade from Bare Minerals Nick of Time, Kismet all over my lids with a fluffy. I don’t think is shade is available any longer but it’s similar to the likes of Anastasia Red Earth or the shades in Becca Ombre Rouge Palette. I lined my eyes with Nars Velvet Eyeliner in Mambo which is hands down a more sophisticated version of Mac Costa Riche, meaning it’s a rich warm brown with strong purple undertones. I finished off with a layer of Elf x Jkissa Mascara and smoked a little bit of Paloma on the lower lashline.

I do love a matte jumbo lip crayon so of course, I was very excited about Chanel Le Rouge Crayon in Hazelnut, a mid tone cool brown that has enough depth not to wash me out but also has that coolness of shades like Styled in Sepia and Stone without making me look ghostly. The formula is not as matte and lightweight as the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils but it’s also retractable and that was really my only grip with the Nars pencils. Hands down, a nude to complete with my all time favourite Nars Audacious Lipstick in Barbara.
I’m definitely no ingenue when it comes to monochrome makeup look but this one must one of my favourite tones. I’m definitely a nude makeup kind of person but I’m very specific about undertones and these products are the most flattering type of brown for me. Let me know your thoughts on the look below!
